I AM HERE: UPPER GULBENKIAN GALLERY, ROYAL COLLEGE OF ART, LONDON
Gallery S O is pleased to be involved with this touring CRAFTS COUNCIL Exhibition.
It is an exhibition of two stories: that of jewellery making from 1970s and beyond, and also that of public collections, and the history they document. Gallery S O has loaned a collection of works to help illustrate these two strands.
I AM HERE features 98 pieces of jewellery by European makers from over five decades, starting with pieces from the most radical era of modern jewellery making, the New Jewellery Movement in the 1970's.
The New Jewellery Movement saw jewellers working with non-precious materials and experimental design in order to address contemporary social, fiscal and political issues. This had a profound impact on the future of contemporary jewellery in the UK and beyond.
I AM HERE includes pieces by contemporary jewellery's biggest stars including Gijs Bakker, David Bielander, Caroline Broadhead, Gerda Flöckinger, Susanna Heron, Karl Fritsch, Rudolf Kocea, Roger Morris, Ted Noten, Lina Petersen, Dorothea Pruhl, Mah Rana, Bernard Schobinger, Hans Stofer, Emmy van Leersum and David Watkins.
